TDA In Road Reconstruction

Kroschel Township, with a rich history dating back to the 1920s, is witnessing the revitalization of its once crucial route, 370th Avenue.

Initially frequented by school buses, loggers, and farmers, this road served as a vital link for the community, navigating through wetlands and Minnesota’s picturesque rolling hills.

In a strategic decision, the Township chose TDA as the foundational aggregate for a significant mile-long reconstruction endeavor. A remarkable 15,600 cubic yards of TDA, equivalent to 936,000 end-of-life tires, were transformed into ASTM 6270-B TDA and meticulously laid three feet deep, spanning the road’s width. This choice not only helped to elevate the road across low-lying areas but also improved drainage efficiency, addressing frost heaving concerns.

Following the extensive refurbishment, the Township proceeded to gravel the entire stretch, with ongoing plans to obtain wetland permits for an expansion project that aligns with contemporary township standards.

Marvin Rostberg, the dedicated road maintenance supervisor, emphasized the considerable advantages for residents, projecting savings of nearly 26 miles due to the restored connectivity of this historic pathway.

Furthermore, the rejuvenated road has attracted the attention of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, aiding loggers in transporting pulp wood from state land through this upgraded TDA-infused route.

Kroschel Township’s dedication to preserving its heritage while enhancing infrastructure showcases a seamless integration of tradition and progress.
