Rubber Conversion Project Gains Italian Government Recognition

Recycled rubber used in industrial applications by Stellantis and Bridgestone

The Rubber Conversion Life Green Vulcan project has been selected by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security as a top project.

Rubber Conversion’s project Life Green uses proprietary technology to demonstrate the use of recycled rubber for industrial applications with high technical content.

Rubber Conversions technology consists of an innovative mix of devulcanized Natural Rubber/Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (NR/SBR) masterbatch, recovered from end-of life-tires (ELTs), that has been transformed into new products and used as a substitute for raw rubber, both in technical components for motor vehicles (spring pads) and in new tire production (PCR tread), both tested by industry partners Stellantis and Bridgestone, respectively.

The Netherlands-based sustainable mobility tech company, Stellantis has introduced production of technical articles using devulcanized rubber including industrial spring pads containing 20 per cent recycled rubber, while Bridgestone has introduced production of  a tread car tire tread rubber (PCR) containing 10 per cent recycled rubber by weight.

These results pave the way for the use of high-quality recycled rubber, allowing remarkable savings in virgin rubber and in particular natural rubber, in full alignment with the EUDR directive ( European Union Deforestation Regulation), and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, the press release announcing the selected devulcanization technology said.

Rubber Conversion SRL, founded in 2017, offers different grades of sustainable rubber produced from end-of-life tires and offers a circular service of production waste, providing qualified technical support for the design of compounds.
