Kentucky Tire Recycling Grants

Scope of grant expanded to include more projects

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) is accepting grant proposals for projects that promote the use of scrap tires in the state. In the past, the grant has been used to fund crumb rubber mulch for landscaping projects, but the EEC is encouraging applicants to expand the scope of potential projects for this grant cycle.

“This grant program has been successful in promoting the use of recycled tires in landscaping mulch applications,” says Energy and Environment Secretary Charles Snavely. “But we know there are many other effective uses for this material, and we would like to encourage applicants to research and apply for other types of projects utilizing recycled tires.”

In addition to landscaping mulch projects, the cabinet is seeking requests for walking trails, sidewalks or other surfaces, horse trailer or stall mats, tree wells or other products using recycled Kentucky tires.

Projects not eligible for grant funding include athletic field or playground applications, tire-derived aggregate, tire-derived fuel, rubber-modified asphalt or civil engineering projects.
